CURIOUS INDUSTRY

We are Curious Industry

We are Curious Industry: a small strategy & innovation consultancy, founded in London in 2013.

We help clients around the world with insights, concept development, and brand propositions - then translate these into powerful strategies and smart ideas to grow their business.

What sets us apart is a pragmatic mindset, based on our years of experience in what works and doesn’t work in strategy and innovation. We call it ‘tougher thinking,’ and it’s a belief that success comes from an iterative blend of smart insight and commercial rigour from day one.

Tougher thinking means that we always combine strategic thinking with practical ideas and tactics to maximise positive impact in the real world.

Work

We work across categories and across continents. We’ve helped clients in FMCG, pharmaceuticals, financial services, B2B, retail, entertainment, non-for-profit, travel, and electronics - working on some of the world’s biggest and most interesting brands.

approach

We operate on principles, not process. Every business problem is unique, and every project is therefore designed according to needs of the challenge and of the organisation. What all of our work has in common is a core belief system:

“This has been what I’d describe as ‘The way things should be done but seldom are.’ Thanks for being the exception!”

Edrington

“The speed at which you unearthed the killer insights that we have been missing was impressive. I work with far larger external partners on a daily basis and none to date have delivered the level of service that you achieved.”

O2

“You always push on us – you never let us get lazy with our thinking.“

Kimberly Clark

“It is great working with a group that know their onions, work hard to deliver a good project, communicate and facilitate brilliantly, but most importantly try to move what we are doing to a new space.”

Abbvie

“One thing you always do so well is take our existing information and show it to us in new ways so that we get more value out of it.”

HP

insight into action

Insight is a huge source of competitive advantage, but useless unless
it’s turned to actionable ideas.

find the possible, make it inspiring

Commercial results don’t come from blue sky thinking, rather from
applying creativity to your assets and constraints.

small teams, better thinking

A small empowered ‘Editorial Team’ behaving like entrepreneurs can
achieve far more than any corporate commitee.

workshops don’t

Large groups are a good source of exploration and insight, but they
won’t get you the right answer.

save enough for the last mile

Organisations need enough energy and resources for the final push
to implementation.

“This has been what I’d describe as ‘The way things should be done but seldom are.’ Thanks for being the exception!”

The team

Blake Glenn

Director

Blake was a chemical engineer, product development scientist, and brand manager for Cadbury Adams. He then became an innovation consultant for What If in New York, where he was a director. Blake mentors students in insight, strategy, and innovation at Middlebury College, Vermont. He also suffers from a bit of a tattoo addiction.

Rupert Millington

Director

Rupert spent years as a communications planner in London and Stockholm. He was the Global Head of Innovation at Aegis, plc before striking out into consultancy. Rupert is a commercially successful inventor, and lectures in strategy and innovation at Insead. On the weekends, Rupe drives old cars around racetracks at unsafe speeds.

Meldrum Duncan

Director

Meldrum began in advertising as an account director, strategy planner and then a copywriter. He went on to spend years as an innovation consultant at What If before becoming a partner & board member, setting up & running their New York office, and ultimately their Director of Innovation. Meldrum builds bizarre contraptions with his kids in his garden shed.

Harry Hobson

Sr. Consultant

Harry started off as a private-detective, found that too scary so became a strategic-consultant; found that too abstract so became an internet-entrepreneur and innovation-advisor. He sold his start up Fathom in 2008; and since then he's advised many great businesses on strategy and growth. He also plays golf and is about to keep bees.

Annette Duncan

Financial Director

With a background in both big-brand project management and property development, Annette has a keen eye for detail, plus a belief learned over the years in the importance of meeting both our suppliers' and our clients' expectations, on time and on budget. Basically, Annette makes sure the whole circus is shipshape.
